Anxiety

You Are Not Alone.

Anxiety is very common, most people experience stress and anxiety at some point in their lives.

What Causes Stress Or Anxiety?

Stress is usually a response to an external cause such as conflicts at home or at work, bereavement, divorce, overwhelming responsibilities, not enough work or activities or any major life change. Anxiety is a specific reaction to stress often described as a persistent feeling of apprehension or dread.
Anxiety is due to internal factors such as certain types of thoughts, feelings and habits and can persist even after stressful situations are over.

When we experience anxiety or fear a flood of stress related hormones prepare our body to meet the threat by either fighting, freezing or running away. Since most of the worries in our modern world can’t be dealt with by fleeing, fighting or freezing this response can remain on high alert for a prolonged period. It can cause physical problems such as muscle tension, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea and digestive problems. It can also cause psychological and emotional problems such as panic attacks, irritability, restlessness and difficulty sleeping or lead to problem behaviours like over or under eating, angry outbursts, drug or alcohol abuse or social withdrawal.
